Born in Fulda, Germany, Anke Bernotat started her career as an apprentice joiner or ‘Schreiner’, followed by Studies of Industrial Design at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal.
After being partner in ‘Architektur und Design Kontor’ she worked as a designer for subsequently Sir Norman Foster and Partners, London; Jasper Morrison, Office for Design, London; n/p/k Industrial Design, Leiden, The Netherlands. In 2002 she founded dmbh_Network for Design, Amsterdam/Cologne.
After teaching at the Design Academy Eindhoven for several years, in 2004 she accepted the offer to be a professor in Industrial Design at the Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen.
Since 2007 Anke is working under her own name Bernotat&Co Design Studio. In her work she focuses on interior products and furniture in its broadest range: for home, office, on the move and public space.
Her designs have achieved many distinctions including the Red Dot Award, Innovation Award for Architecture and Office and the IF Design Award in Hannover.
